WedBuild Cookie Policy
Last updated: 16 March 2026 Effective date: 16 March 2026
1. About This Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how WedBuild Pty Ltd ("WedBuild," "we," "us," "our") uses cookies, local storage, and similar tracking technologies when you use our wedding planning platform at https://app.wedbuild.com and related services (the "Service").
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
2. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They allow the website to remember your actions and preferences over time.
Local storage is a browser feature that allows websites to store data on your device. Unlike cookies, local storage data is not automatically sent to the server with every request, but it persists until explicitly cleared.
Tracking pixels (also called web beacons) are tiny transparent images embedded in emails or web pages that allow us to track whether content has been viewed or a link has been clicked.
We use a combination of these technologies as described below.
3. Categories of Technologies We Use
3.1 Strictly Necessary (Always Active)
These technologies are essential for the Service to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality. No consent is required for these under Australian privacy law, the GDPR, or ePrivacy regulations.
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Storage Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication tokens | Supabase | Keeping you signed in, managing your session, and refreshing authentication securely | localStorage | Until logout or session expiry |
| Cookie consent record | WedBuild | Remembering your cookie preferences so we don't ask you again on every visit | localStorage (cookie_consent) | Until you clear browser data or update your preferences |
| Password gate cookie | WedBuild | Remembering that you've entered the correct password for a password-protected wedding website, so you don't have to re-enter it on each page load | httpOnly cookie (path-scoped) | 24 hours |
3.2 Analytics (Requires Consent)
These technologies help us understand how users interact with the Service so we can improve it. They are only activated if you opt in via our cookie consent banner.
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Storage Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Product analytics | PostHog | Tracking page views, feature usage, and session data to understand how users navigate and use the app | localStorage + cookie (ph_*) | Up to 1 year |
| Session recording | PostHog | Recording anonymised user sessions (with text and media masked) in production to identify usability issues | localStorage | Session |
What PostHog collects when enabled:
- Pages visited and features used
- Click and interaction events
- Session duration and frequency
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- Screen resolution
- Anonymised session recordings (text masked, media blocked)
What PostHog does NOT collect:
- Passwords or payment details
- Personal information (email is not sent to PostHog)
PostHog data is processed in accordance with the PostHog Privacy Policy. PostHog is hosted in the United States.
3.3 Error Monitoring (Requires Consent)
These technologies help us detect and fix bugs and performance issues to improve the reliability of the Service. They are only activated if you opt in via our cookie consent banner.
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Storage Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Error tracking | Sentry | Capturing error reports, stack traces, and performance data when something goes wrong | Cookie (sentry-*) | Session |
| Performance monitoring | Sentry | Measuring page load times and API response times to identify performance bottlenecks | Cookie | Session |
What Sentry collects when enabled:
- Error messages and stack traces
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Page URL where the error occurred
- Performance timing data
What Sentry does NOT collect:
- Personal information (PII sending is disabled)
- Passwords or payment details
- Unmasked text or media from session replays
Sentry data is processed in accordance with the Sentry Privacy Policy. Sentry is hosted in the United States.
3.4 Email Tracking
When you send announcements or email campaigns to your wedding guests through WedBuild, we embed tracking technologies in those emails on your behalf:
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Storage Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open tracking pixel | SendGrid | Detecting whether a recipient opened the email | Pixel (not stored on device) |
| Click tracking links | SendGrid | Detecting whether a recipient clicked a link in the email | URL redirect (not stored on device) |
This tracking applies only to emails you send to your guests, not to emails we send to you. Open and click data is displayed in your WedBuild announcement analytics dashboard.
SendGrid data is processed in accordance with the Twilio Privacy Policy. SendGrid is hosted in the United States.
3.5 Third-Party Functional Resources
The Service loads resources from third-party providers for functional purposes. These providers may set their own cookies according to their own policies:
| Resource | Provider | Purpose | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web fonts | Google Fonts | Loading typefaces used in the app and published wedding websites | Google may collect anonymised usage data. See Google Privacy Policy. |
| Maps | Google Maps | Displaying venue locations on wedding websites | Only loaded on pages with map features. See Google Privacy Policy. |
4. How We Obtain Consent
When you first visit WedBuild, a cookie consent banner is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can:
- Accept All — enables analytics and error monitoring technologies.
- Reject All — only strictly necessary technologies remain active.
- Manage Preferences — choose individually which categories to enable or disable (analytics and/or error monitoring).
Analytics (PostHog) and error monitoring (Sentry) client-side SDKs are not initialised until you explicitly opt in. If you reject or do not consent, these services are never loaded and no tracking cookies are set.
Your preference is stored in your browser's local storage and remembered for future visits. You can change your preferences at any time (see Section 5).
5. Managing Your Preferences
5.1 Via WedBuild
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for app.wedbuild.com, which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit.
5.2 Via Your Browser
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. Common options include:
- Block all cookies — may prevent the Service from functioning correctly.
- Block third-party cookies — may affect analytics and error monitoring functionality.
- Delete existing cookies — removes stored cookies but they may be recreated on your next visit (subject to your consent preferences).
For browser-specific instructions:
5.3 Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no industry-standard interpretation of DNT, we do not currently respond to DNT signals. However, our consent-based approach means no analytics or monitoring technologies are activated without your explicit opt-in, regardless of DNT settings.
6. Cookies on Published Wedding Websites
Published wedding websites (e.g., yourwedding.wedbuild.com) use a minimal set of technologies:
- Password gate cookie (strictly necessary) — If the couple has enabled password protection, a cookie is set after you enter the correct password so you don't have to re-enter it during your visit. This cookie expires after 24 hours.
- Google Fonts — Typefaces may be loaded from Google's servers.
- Google Maps — If the couple has included a map on their website.
Published wedding websites do not load PostHog analytics or Sentry error monitoring. No analytics cookies are set on guest-facing pages.
7. Data Transfers
Some of the technologies described in this policy involve transferring data to providers located in the United States (PostHog, Sentry, SendGrid, Google). For more information about international data transfers and the safeguards we apply, please see Section 5 of our Privacy Policy.
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we introduce new categories of cookies or significantly change how we use existing ones, we will reset your consent preferences so you can make a fresh choice.
